References & Resources

Here are the black powder blogs, YouTube channels, forums, books, articles, and suppliers that I have found to be useful:

Black Powder Blogs

I can’t find more than a few blogs that have significant black powder shooting
content. I would really appreciate some suggestions, and I would add them here:

Replica Percussion Revolvers Collectors Blog @ capandballrevolvers.com: https://www.capandballrevolvers.com/ARTICLES. See the related YouTube channel below.

The Firearm Blog (TFB): https://www.thefirearmblog.com/. The blog has to be searched for posts related to black powder subjects. (See the related forum listed below.)

blackpowderguide.com: https://blackpowderguide.com/
A site only about black powder revolvers, very new, without many posts, but
very well done. This site has a lot of ads. (See his YouTube Channel listed below.)

YouTube Channels

I will be updating on a somewhat regular basis to ensure that the channels are still as active as I say. I found that some channels display less videos than they say on the description and I will note that. If they have hundreds, I am not going to count them all, but I will make sure they have a good representation of what is in my description. Suggestions are welcome for adding to my list.

He has a comprehensive and detailed series on black powder revolver shooting: “The Percussion Revolver Series” (148 videos), along with other tips, tricks, and reviews.

—————————————————————————-

A well-produced and wide-ranging channel, from historical to modern firearms. Currently he has 156 videos about cap and ball revolvers. He took a bad fall, but he is bouncing back.

————————————————————————-

His main focus is historical military firearms. In the black powder area, he has
147 videos regarding muzzleloaders & 43 videos for percussion revolvers. Very entertaining and informative site, his Hungarian accent is a bonus.

—————————————————————————-

Just as the title states, very comprehensive and well produced.

—————————————————————————-

Definitely has fun with it and a lot of social activities, but some serious stuff going on here. Some weird testing and mostly flintlock shooting, but there is enough percussion shooting for me to view.

—————————————————————————-

Mostly about revolver cap and ball shooting, with other more modern gun related topics.

—————————————————————————-

He shoots and shoots and shoots. He mostly does smokeless powder guns, but he has enough black powder videos to keep my interest, plus he’s informative about whatever he shoots.

—————————————————————————–

He is focused on technology and weapons of the past, including cap and ball, flintlocks, and making black powder.

——————————————————————————

Although he has only has 5 videos related to black powder, his site covers all shooting topics imaginable. But sadly, Paul Harrel has passed. He will be missed as one of the greatest weapons educators of our time. His brother Roy will continue the channel.

——————————————————————————-

His last video was 5 months ago. He has 28 percussion revolver videos along with muzzleloading and military rifle videos.

——————————————————————————–

He has mostly black powder revolver shooting videos. They are so well produced and performed that I am surprised he doesn’t have more subscribers.

——————————————————————————–

Mainly a pistolero, and he does shoot other calibers than 44. Very well done.

——————————————————————————–

Just as it says, shooting with an historical perspective and very well done.

——————————————————————————–

He just started black powder shooting, but he has very informative and well produced videos. His blog, listed above, is more active and just as well done.

——————————————————————————–

The last video was a year ago, but very good stuff. Mostly black powder revolver shooting videos, also with related subjects.

——————————————————————————–

This site is a companion site for Mark Hubbs’ business: Eras Gone By Bullet Molds. His products are referenced and used at many of the black powder sites on the web.

Black Powder Websites

I would love to have suggestions for black powder websites run by individuals and not run by companies that sell products. The websites can have advertising, but must be produced by an individual or a non-commercial group, such as gun club or shooting society. I would make an exception for someone like Blackie Thomas, who sells his own brand of products.

capandball.com: https://capandball.com/. “Muzzleloading, reloading, hunting and shooting.” See his related YouTube channel above.

Black Powder Sub-Forums

Here is a list of forums and sub-forums with black powder content. Again, suggestions for additional listings are welcomed.

The Muzzloading Forum: https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/ – Three sub-forums: “Percussion Rifles”, “Handguns Percussion & Flintlock”, & “General Muzzleloading”.

Idaho Lewis: https://idaholewis.forumotion.com/ – Two sub-forums: “Traditional Muzzle Loading” & “Black Powder Pistols”. There is a really annoying small ad right where the post titles are. He has an inactive YouTube channel with a few videos, mostly long range shooting.
