Target Stand, Target Holder, & Bullet Traps
My goal of trapping and reusing as many projectiles as possible was made easier by the construction of this target stand and holder.

One set of hinges is on the inside of the back plate (above) and the other set is on the outside of the back plate (below).

Both supports fold to either side of the back plate.

Multiple layers of carpet can be folded over the back plate. Carpet, both intact and shredded, has proven to be an effective bullet trapping material at low velocities. We had bought a roll of landscape netting for erosion control made from jute which I also use in my bullet trap box.

Bullet Trap: Carpet In Cardboard Box
Additional bullet trapping material can be placed on the table for more bullet capturing capability.

Also, the carpet can be sifted and moved so that projectiles are less likely to strike each other and be deformed and therefore rendered unusable for swaging. This can be accomplished without changing the position of the target, which is placed on the target holder, very helpful if I am using my gun clamp.

Another bullet trap I use is cardboard sections in a cardboard box. This can be placed in front of or behind the carpet box for more energetic bullets. The bullets sometimes fall to the bottom of the box after impact making them easier to recover from than the carpet box, but the carboard sections have to be replaced, and the carpet fibers do not.
